#ShrewsburySunday: The Perfect Saturday Night

Introducing #ShrewsburySunday to the blog purely after having the very best night last night!

Everyone says the best nights are the spontaneous last minute ones and they really are right! Nick came back from a busy day at work and I'd seen on Facebook that a bar in town we'd never been to were doing happy hour cocktails so we booked a taxi and managed to get from gym kit to going out kit in 25 minutes... possibly a new record!

We'd never been to Havana Republic before so didn't know where it was or what it was like.. all I knew was that they had a Happy Hour and a live singer so I was sold. We got there an immediately the Mexican vibe and atmosphere warms you and excites you. Despite being a little disappointed that there was only 2 cocktails available on Happy hour and not really being a fan of either, the cocktails that we did treat ourselves too were loooovely! Anyone who knows me knows I'm a sucker for some groovy drinks glasses (or cans in this case) so I was in my element!

It was so good to have a Saturday night with the fella as this is a bloody rare occasion so was nice to try somewhere new and meet some lovely new friends... who naughtily convinced us to try the restaurant next door - The Peach Tree. We'd seen in on Trip Advisor and Facebook etc since we've moved but we've never been so thought considering we were being spontaneous, why the hell not!

Firstly, a huge thank you to Grant for squeezing us in when you were full! Despite Havana and Peach Tree being linked together, they atmosphere changes a lot when walking from one to the other - the stunning piano player and singer in the corner gave the romantic, calm vibe.

We started off with a glass of procescco and a small starter of "piggy bits" which were in-cred-ible! Not sure what they exactly were but it was beautiful chunks of pork in a gorgeous chinese-y sauce! (Was so good I didn't even take time to take a photo!)

I was a little price conscious on what I ordered as we're trying to save money and some meals were a little pricey but you were certainly paying for what you had. Nick's steak looked totally perfect and I really wish I'd had the duck from looking at it on the next table but the fish and home made chips was delicious for me.

We both said we were quite full but didn't want to miss out on a pudding so we picked one and when we ordered we said we were going to share it... now, I don't know if they made it bigger as we were sharing it or whether it is genuinely this big! But oh my days... a banoffee version of an Eton Mess (we did order the gingerbread version but can't say I mind as this was just as scrummy!) I definitely means I need a good gym session now today but this really was amazing! Cream.. meringue, banana, toffee sauce, ice cream.. wowza.

To be fair, when the bill came, I wasn't overly shocked. Think it was £62 for 2 glasses of bubbly, a starter, 2 mains - one being a £25 steak, and a giant pudding!

And of course, it would've been rude to leave without having 1 more cocktail while waiting for our taxi back from Havana Republic ;) Helloooooo Strawberry Mohjito!

Can't wait for some of my girlies to come visit next month so I can take them and we're definitely debating this for Valentine's Day as they have a great deal where you can get 3 courses for £27! Hmm.. already debating what to have ;)
